Tonight, in the heart of Buenos Aires, at the Teatro Gran Rex — this year in a new venue — the global tango community gathered once again to witness the final of TangoBA – the Argentine Tango World Championship. One of the biggest questions was whether Diego and Aldana would win the world title. If so, Diego would be, as far as I know, the first tango dancer to become an Argentine world champion in both Tango de Pista and Stage Tango.

Five rounds — possibly due to an error

Most likely because of an incredible mistake, for the first time in the history of the World Championships there were **five rounds** and **41 couples** competing in the final.

One couple, despite having qualifying scores, appeared incorrectly in the combined scoring because of a mathematical error. When the mistake was discovered, the last couple was **not removed** from the final lineup. This is how, for the first time ever, the championship ended up with five rounds.

Another interesting aspect was that there is a senior category (55+) and an adult category — and one senior competitor actually made it into the adult final.

The strength of the field

This year’s field was exceptionally strong: outstanding dancers arrived from all over the world, and the level was proven by the fact that several big-name, highly respected couples did not make it to the final. In tango nothing is guaranteed — instead of reputation or past titles, the moment decides: the music, the connection, the embrace, the creativity — every detail matters.

Our participation

We also competed again this year, and once more it was an unforgettable experience to be there from the qualifiers through the semifinals all the way to the semifinal round. This was our dance in the semifinal:

What does this year tell us?

The 2025 World Championship showed once again that tango remains a living, ever-evolving art form. And the judges truly had an incredibly difficult task this year.

Tomorrow is the Stage Tango Final, and on Wednesday we fly home. We arrive Thursday evening — and we’ll be performing at Milonga Jueves.
