This competition, simply known as the Metropolitano, is one of the most exciting tango events of the year, and today at 5:00 PM local time, it reaches its climax: the Grand Final.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>An event where the world&#8217;s best put themselves to the test<\/h3>\n<p>The Campeonato de Baile de la Ciudad is now being held for the 21st time, organized by the Buenos Aires Ministry of Culture. The competition runs from April 30 to May 11 at various venues, culminating in tonight\u2019s final at the iconic Usina del Arte. The stakes are high: the winners will represent Buenos Aires at the Tango BA Festival y Mundial 2025 World Championship finals in August. Among them are several of my tango friends from Europe \u2013 including M\u00e1rta Kubicz, the organizer of the Quiero Verte Tango Festival, who is also competing.<\/p>\n<h3>No World Champion yet \u2013 but we might be seeing them for the first time tonight!<\/h3>\n<p>What makes this event special is that many World Champions start here. Last year, for example, F\u00e1tima Caracoch and Brenno Lucas won the Metropolitano \u2013 and just a few months later, they became World Champions in the Tango de Pista category. To give a Hungarian analogy: the Metropolitano is like when Krist\u00f3f Mil\u00e1k and Hubert K\u00f3s race each other in the 200-meter butterfly at the national championships. Two Olympic champions!!! Even if it\u2019s \u201cjust\u201d a domestic event, everyone knows the World Championship title could be decided here.
